Children and School Life!
Parenting is a thrill in itself and is by no means a cakewalk. As kids grow, our concerns change and parenting takes a different format. As we help them explore the world around us, they gain rich experiences and develop their own mindsets. Be it at school, sports or daycare, the scope of influencers increase exponentially, which reflects as they develop their personalities. But, amongst all, parents are the key players when it comes to a child’s development. They are the ones who can influence kids personality, their confidence, and motivation, be it with respect to life’s learnings or school life. I believe that if a parent is not involved in child’s education, the learning potential might suffer. A parental guidance with right support helps a child reach their highest academic & life’s goals.
Here are 5 ways to help kids succeed in their School Life :
1. Competitive yet resilient :
Today’s kids are high in IQ, but low in EQ. They may be quite focussed towards their targets, but a single fall leaves them shattered. This is where our role as parents is, to help them develop resilience, to allow them to experience failures with all strength. The most successful and confident kids are those who get closer to their goals via various trial and errors. A failure need not be the quitting point, but it has to be the start of a new approach towards the goal. Your guidance is must, but let children be compelled to do their own work.
2. Encourage Reading :
Personally reading out has been the best way to help my child learn the life’s lessons. Appreciating their reading times and interacting with them on their stories, will help children learn more about the cultures, values, history, gratitude, compassion. Reading will also help growing kids in developing their vocabulary and building up their imaginations, thus boosting creativity.
You can create your home library or get books from book clubs or promote kids to borrow varied books from schools. Try to keep a varied range of books, so that a child can explore and find out their interest. While reading, try to discuss the story, talk about their thoughts and choices of the characters. Reading is an excellent way to inculcate habits we want in kids.
3. Physical activity :
Kids have lots of energy and they need to channelize it optimistically. Give kids their “Free Play time”, let them run and explore things the way they want. This will not juts make them physically active, but will also improve their diet patterns (ensure healthy foods) and enhance their imaginations. Promoting creativity bubble is crucial in itself for academic success.
4. Observe and Interact :
There is no need to be a Helicopter parent, give your growing kids enough space. But yes, observe and interact with them quite often. Have a close look at their school books and go for assignment help, if needed. Look at the way they have completed their books, assignments and understand things that are being discussed at school. Try to interact with the teacher occasionally and get to the bottom of your child’s performance and conduct in school. Interact with your child daily wrt school happenings (don’t bombard them with direct questions), but take the gauge of situation in a fun way.
This way you will get to know various phases of your child. Observe them in social settings too. Any behavioural changes are often seen during social gatherings or at home. If your child needs help in assignments, support them in connecting to top assignment experts . You as a parent need to make your kids aware about bullying and the kind of support they can get. They need to support “No to bullying”, right from their schools.

5. Encourage kids :
A child needs to believe in self and understand that he/she is precious. Kids will certainly make mistakes, but consider them as leaning opportunities. Even if your child didn’t win Gold in sports competition, praise him for the best efforts he put in. If your introvert child finds happiness with the play date you organized, appreciate the efforts your child did to mingle up with all. This may sound a small tip, but it plays a major role in boosting a child’s confidence.
Every child is unique and every child may not be good at everything. Appreciate kids when they take extra steps towards a milestone.
As a parent, be satisfied that your child is working to achieve the best. It may not always reflect in the scores, but it will show up in a child’s confidence and motivation. You will be thrown across numerous challenges, stop reacting. Pause. Think and sort out the best way to deal with it, so that it doesn’t impacts the budding thoughts of a growing child.

Talking to the teacher always helps and I am always in favor of it. Knowing about how your child is doing helps in targeting the weak areas.
Btw, loved the quote “Mistakes are proof that you are trying”
Homework in grade school reinforces and extends classroom learning and helps kids practice important study skills. It also helps them develop a sense of responsibility and a work ethic that will benefit them beyond the classroom. Parents who make it a habit to encourage reading abilities in their child early on often feel less stressed in the elementary years of their child since they have already accomplished much of it before their time. Reading is an exercise for the mind. It helps kids calm down and relax, opening doors of new knowledge to enlighten their minds. Kids who read grow up to have better cognitive skills.
Hi Jhilmil,
Encouraging kids is very important. Lot of times in life we tend to feel low. It is important for parents to encourage their kids and show them the way. Talent with right coaching goes a long way in building the future of your kids.
