Summer Challenge for Kids
Summer holidays are here and it is the best time to engage with kids and have some family fun together. But the biggest challenge is how to engage kids indoors, when most of the time we hear “I’m getting bored“? Well, occasional boredom should be there for a child, but there has to be other engagement activities daily. It’s searing hot and heat waves are sweeping all over. There is no respite even in the green gardens till late evenings. And hence, it is really a tricky time to keep kids indoors, engage them and keep those digital gadgets at a bay. Isn’t it relatable to all mama’s?
To be honest, I have a fix screen time and I don’t wish to deviate that under most of the circumstances. Being a crafty mom myself, I indulge in ample DIY crafts and activities with my 3.9year old son. But at times I have found myself in a fix. Sometimes due to chaos over insufficient activity materials, lack of ample ideas suitable for my son’s age and his interests and at times the activity didn’t turn out to be as we had planned.
Well, mistakes do happen. But I realized, I wanted some extra support to rely on. And that’s when I subscribed Flintobox, a kids activity subscription box. Initially, I was apprehensive of how the activity and its material would be, will my child engage, will he love the themes and many more Q’s (after all, I’m a mama). But then every new demonstration leads to a new learning for a parent. So, my Lil Pirate found the treasure in his chest named “Flintobox”
Flintobox activities and theme :
The Flintobox I received had the theme of “Snow World”..Whoop..when the temperatures outside had crossed 43degrees. And here we started our journey, highly excited.
Contents of May Themed Flintobox :
A) A snow themed story book :
Building Mister Snowman, which was quite colourful . This was the first thing we did, as we both love reading storybooks. With adorable pictorial illustration with some fun facts, this Flinto Story book became an instant hit and provoked us to explore all the activities.
So basically the box had 4 activities, one for each week. But then we did all 4 activities in 4 days, out of curiosity and fun we had in unboxing, designing and kicking off the snow world.
B) The Ice world adventure kits :
1. My Snow world :
The fun of cutting out the elements, thinking what exactly they could be and where did they fit, to colouring them of the apt choices was super fun. My son kept on thinking on the reindeer’s antlers and it was fun to see him amused. We loved was setting up the sleigh, sticking the “human cut outs” to cloth pins and weirdly attaching them to Christmas Tree. And master “A” started singing his favourite rhyme, Jingle Bells, right out of nowhere, but looking at his ready sleigh.
2. Snow Bowling :
Blue is A’s favourite colour and ball his favourite toy. And when you get exactly the same in the kit, its a halla-bol in the house, lol. That’s what happened. And I was dazzled, now how can I go for Snow bowling? Can you guess? It’s when you are to make those pretty penguin family, decorate them with caps, bows, tie, gloves, goggles; arrange your score card holder and keep those play cards ready. So penguins were the pins and we had to bowl them down and start the scoring. This became a match between three of us and after some cheating in the score, master A won! But, it was super fun.
Mama, pls open the third kit..No..Not at all, its time for reading story books. Oh mama, then just let me see the contents of it..No baby, it is for tomorrow, early morning for sure. And, ya, we finally settled as it was the well beyond the regular bed time.
3. Exploretica :
Well, this summer, I had introduced my kid to some science experiments. And wow, I exclaimed! This kit was packed with small science experiments with ice. Honestly, one of them, I had never tried myself. Watch over this video for more.
4. Ice Cube Aurora :
Won’t that it be sweet, if a postcard reaches grand ma and grand pa with some Ice cube aurora created by the colourful ice cube paintings? I’ve gobbled lots of Ice cubes, but Ice cube painting, I did for the first time! Look at the exposure kids can get.
Just out of this one kit (though I have a 6 months subscription), lemme help you give some heads up.
What I loved about Flintobox for Kids ?
1. Inclusion of all materials + Quality :
Starting from yarn to trays, colours, paper cups, messy sheets, every small thing required in the activity was there. I didn’t need to pull out anything extra, apart from “Ice Cubes”. Further, be it cardboard penguin cut out, stickers or postcards, I found them all of a decent quality for kids.
2. Kids Friendly :
None of the materials had sharp or knocked off edges. Having a proper tray and messy mat actually made things sorted and easier. The size of the materials, concepts included were apt for the kids age group. Flintobox has subscription boxes basis kids age, to give them true learning with the fun, as per their growth.
3. Child Development :
The activities helped in :
- Linguistic and Vocab development with new words associated with the activities. It also helps in enhancing the concentration of a child.
- Conceptual learning : Experiments help kids understand the logic. Starting from the formation of Ice to aurora creation, it was so much easier to help Master A understand the new concepts of nature and science.
- Motor Skills : Punching out the cut outs, decorating penguins, pulling ice cube with yarn, are all activities which help in motor development of a child.
- Creativity : So, every night I heard all new story of the Ice world from master A. It was all about his imaginations which were building while he was working on his activities. Small activities like decorating penguin, ignites the imaginations of a child. Great booster!
- Confidence : The confidence when a child completes his activity is worth watching. Indulge into it and watch for yourself.
- Sensory skills : Holding the ice cube and painting it activates the sensory skills of a child.
4. Bye Bye to Digital world :
Who needs those gadgets and videos when you have such power packed activities to do? Though my son doesn’t watch TV, but ya he loves his videos. And I must admit that he opted for a choice of Flintobox activity over videos:).
It was happy Baby = Contented Mama!
5. Distinctive Activities :
Well, I must say the activities planned were really well thought off in every small perspective stated above. It was apt for the age group as well. Every kit was a unique one, with no repetition of skillset or indulgence. And this always kept the curiosity alive, to open up the next kit to have a fun exploration.
What additional ?
Along with Flintobox, I received Flintobox Plus via mail, with a variety of interesting BONUS activities to engage your child creatively at home. And it will be all related to the theme. As in the Ice Boats, Clothespin Snowman were some additional activities that we learnt. Indeed a bonus.
Would I recommend Flintobox for your child?
Strongly Yes! And it’s my honest feedback. After you start cherishing your fun and learning journey with Flintobox, you and your kid will be addicted to it for sure. Try out once and I’m sure, you’ll love the way it expands horizon of a child. Discounts are On, grab your box right away!

Hot, summer days are tough to pass by. Occasional boredom is important for kids but we cannot blaim them for getting bored. Sunny days don't let them play outside and we cannot entertain them all the time. Subscription boxes are actually a good option for keeping kids occupied in a fun activity.
