Beautiful Temples of Delhi :
India is a country of temples, and I’m always intrigued by the grandeur our temples possess. Same goes for the Capital city, Delhi, which has some world famous Temples, like ISKCON, Akshardham, Lotus Temple along with the likes of Hanuman Mandir (built during Mahabharata) and Chhatarpur Temple. With different architectures, beautiful mythological stories, these temples never fail to amuse, whether you are an atheist or a believer.
Here are the most famous Temples of Delhi, not to give a miss while you are here :
1. Akshardham :
Usually thronged with lots of tourist buses and queues before security checks, it is truly a magical attraction of Delhi. Built in 2005, Akshardham is the biggest comprehensive temple in the world. It has a cafeteria serving some good food, playground with rides for kids, souvenir shops (for items related to religion), Stunning Exhibitions, beautiful lush green thematic gardens. And not just this, as the night falls, one of the best Light and sound “Water show” awaits your presence. The name “Sahaj Anand” of this breathtaking water show translates into real feelings. The sound of real water, music, and lights make it quite an impressive show.
You’ll certainly fall in love with this architecture, built entirely out of white marble.
Traveler Tips :
- Try to visit it during weekdays to avoid the heavy rush, its open from Tuesday to Sunday
- Don’t miss the water show, there are shows in Hindi and English starting from 7:30 pm.
- Entry to mandir complex is Free, however, charges for Water show and Exhibition.
- Phones / Camera’s, Electronic Items, are not allowed inside the temple premises (either keep in your cars/in the cloakroom available before entering the security check queue)
- Baby food and water bottles are allowed inside. No other food items are allowed.
- Akshardham metro is the best way to reach Akshardham temple.
2. ISKCON Temple, Delhi :
Dedicated to Lord Krishna, this beautiful temple has a huge and impressive architecture. Recently only PM Narendra Modi unveiled the world’s biggest Gita at Iskcon Temple. Not just Darshan, the complex has Vedic Museum, Robot show, Library, Gift store and a Restaurant – Govinda’s. They run the “Food For Life” program, in which they serve wholesome Prasad to thousand’s of visitors per day. The food is also served to many old age homes and orphanages.
Right from being a part of their sacred chants to the enjoying the beauty, you’ll find every moment ushered with the most needed “peace of life”.
Traveler Tips :
- Be a part of sacred chants, I bet, you’ll love it
- The nearest Metro station for Iskcon temple is Nehru Place, from where Rickshaw’s or Auto’s can be hired.
- You should try the delicious food served at Govinda’s Restaurant.
3. Lotus Temple :
Well, since the tag “Temple” is attached, it is naturally assumed to be dedicated to some deity. But, Lotus Temple, a beautiful white marble Bahai temple, welcomes people of all religion. It has a large hall which can be used to meditate and perform individual prayers. The essence here is peace, and unity amongst all races and religions.
The staggering white marble Lotus is in the shape of a half-opened lotus with 27 petals. Built by the Iranian architect, it has bagged numerous awards for an excellent masterpiece.
All the entrances of this temple are surrounded by lush green gardens and pools, which makes the sight utmost pleasing.
Traveler Tips :
- Lotus Temple is open from 9 AM to 7 PM in summers, open all days, except on Mondays.
- Entry is Free here, but if you wish for Photography, special permissions are required.
- The best way to reach Lotus temple is by metro, the nearest station is Kalkaji Mandir metro station.
