Here’s why every mother-to-be needs a baby gift registry

Baby Gift registry

Being a new mom is a lot of work! The last thing you need in addition to that is a pile of gifts you’ll never use. And that’s why every mom-to-be needs to welcome the latest trend of baby gift registries—the most amazing and practical trend for new parents.

Gift registries started with weddings, and in India, couples sometimes feel awkward about asking their guests for gifts. But the strongest proponents of the registry are couples who chose not to have one—for they realize the bane of hundreds of gifts they’ll never use. By the time they’re having a baby, they’re the first to adapt to this trend.

The idea is fairly simple. The expecting mother creates a list of things she would want as gifts—from strollers and diapers to onesies and burp cloths—pretty much anything you would need for the new arrival. Guests take their pick from this list and get the mom something they like and that fits in their budget.

If you’re creating a baby registry, here’s how to get it right!

1. Do your research

A new baby means an endless list of things. And the world of retail is inundated with options, which can be overwhelming for any mom. You have 9 months to plan the arrival of your little one, so take your time to research and add the right gifts to your registry. From brands and product quality to styles and colors give it a lot of thought. Even if your registry isn’t completely bought, doing this research means you can just go online and buy it yourself. A registry is like your baby shopping list!

2. Don’t go crazy!

Baby things can be adorable—from tiny socks and hats to shoes and clothes. Keep the cuteness overload in check and go for things that you need as opposed to those that look good. Babies grow out of things before you can blink, so focus your registry on items like a pram, linen or other items that are essential and with a slightly longer shelf life.

3. Vary on price points

As is the case with any registry, it’s always good to have a variety of price points for guests to choose from. While your friends and family have the option of contributing towards any gift, people prefer to get an entire gift by themselves. So choose items in a variety of price points so there can be something for everyone’s budget.

4. Don’t feel awkward

This one’s the most important rule of creating the perfect baby registry. As an expecting mom, you’ll have a lot on your plate and may not find time to go and get everything you need. On the other hand, your friends and family will be getting you gifts in any case, and knowing what you want will make it easy for them. Plus they will know that their gift was lovingly used. It’s a win-win for everyone, so stop feeling awkward and just do one now!

Baby Gift Registry is a cool idea. It avoids duplication of gifts and also you can have things which you truly need. I remember that I got so many gift hampers of J&J products. Incidentally, my son was allergic to a few J&J products so we couldnt use any and had to give to our family and friends!! 😀

I agree there are so many gifts that are left unused and some are just similar to ones parents had already received from others. It makes perfect sense to create a baby gift registry to make sure gifts are well loved when received and and well used.
