Introduce your child to reading with HarperCollins’ I Can Read subscription program

Introduce your child to reading with HarperCollins’ I Can Read subscription program

The unique aroma of books pulls my son towards the classic reads of his age. And I’m sure he got that in his genes, me being a bibliophile since I was a tween-ager! I read a lot of picture books in my younger years. By the time I turned 9, I was already into reading novellas! School library was my favorite place, and getting 2 books issued every week was something I always looked forward to.

Libraries and bookstores had been my go-to places till a year back. But the pandemic hit us hard, with the long lockdown. I exhausted my books from the shelves, so re-read the old ones, but this couldn’t work for my son. He was on the verge of starting reading Level 3 (reading on his own), and hence I had to look for books from online stores. Being an avid reader, I was excited when an email landed up in my mailbox, about a book subscription for kids and I had to explore it.

HarperCollins I can read subscription:

That email was from none other than our favorite children’s publishing house, HarperCollins, for the I Can Read subscription program for kids. Was I ecstatic, with the bundled offer for my son? Honestly, I jumped seeing the offering, which would deliver me my subscription box, right at my doorstep. What is HarperCollins I can read subscription Program?

If you’re already #raisingareader, I’m sure, you must be aware of Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 books, for beginning readers. Well yes, I Can Read books are segregated into different levels, as per the child’s reading ability.

We had quite a few, Danny the Dinosaur, Amelia Bedelia Joins the Club, Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping, Mouse Tales from “ I Can Read” level 1 and Level 2 series. And Harper Collins came up with the subscription program for this beloved series.

It was relevant, because:

  1. It came at the right time when kids were indoors, and many parents like us were looking for reading programs for kids.
  2. Such a subscription program maintains a regularity for reading.
  3. The subscription program was value for money.
  4. You could get it right at your doorstep.

This subscription is for “I Can Read” Levels:

  • My First Shared Reading – This is a reading-aloud series for our tiny tots. These are storybooks with simple words, vocabulary, and repeated phrases which helps them in the recognition of words.
  • Level 1: Beginning Reading – This is perfect for pre-schoolers, who are learning the sounds of words, and understanding sentences. I Can Read books level 1 are filled with loveable characters, adorable animals, and interesting storylines, which keep their interest levels up.
  • Level 2: Reading with Help – This level is for readers who have begun reading but need help (basically Kindergarteners). The stories are bigger, with enriching vocabulary, longer sentences. Amelia Bedelia series was the most exciting one for my son.
  • Level 3: Reading Alone – This level has a lot of fun storybooks to keep kids hooked. Even historical fictional books (as The Pony Express) are introduced at this level. As you may have guessed, it is for independent readers, with more complex stories, and vocabularies for their development.

HarperCollins Children’s Book is offering 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months subscription programs for all of these 4 levels for children. The subscription boxes are carefully curated, and as a parent, you can even check the sample chapters shared on their website for every level.
