Fascinating Doll Museum of Delhi

Ever thought of entering into a dreamland full of Dolls, Dolls, and Dolls? Well, this is what Shankar’s Doll Museum looks to me, a Doll-Land! So, I need to admit my son doesn’t have much fascination for doll’s, he loves his world full of robots and cars, typical boys, huh!

But I still remember my childhood days, when my one hand was always occupied, with a Doll. I had a huge collection of Dolls, as I loved playing (pretend plays) with them. It was a beautiful world to me. So, when I got to know about the Doll Museum in Delhi, I was really excited to explore it out.

How many dolls are there in Shankar’s Doll Museum?

Spreading over a huge area, it houses around 6500 dolls, from all across the globe. Established in 1965, Shankar’s Doll Museum is the largest Doll Museum of India. It was conceptualized by the famous cartoonist of the 19th century, Shankar Pillai and hence the names go by.

So, did you guess what all dolls this big museum has?

For the ease, this Doll Museum is divided into two halves, one for dolls from Australia, NewZealand, Europe, United States and the other half has Asian dolls. In Asian Dolls section, there are close to 500 Dolls from India, dressed up in different attires from different states and different dance forms. The costume dolls are created by the finest craftsmen at the Museum Workshop. The beauty of this International Dolls Museum comes from the fact that the collection is mostly gifted by various diplomatic dignitaries of India and other nations. The doll’s made at the workshop attached to this museum can be bought as well.

When we visited this Museum, we were simply amazed at the adorable collection. And even our little one loved the uniqueness of this Museum. It is one of the Museum, which can be explored for Kids outings during summers.

Entry Ticket:

Rs. 15/-For Adults, Rs. 5/- For Children. Children in groups (like school tours) of 20 and more, concessions are also given.

Opening Time:

10 am to 6 pm, Closed on Mondays.

Duration:

1-2 hours basis your interest levels. Photography is not allowed here, Restrooms and parking facilities are available. There is no Cafeteria here.

It is easily accessible by Metro, the nearest one is ITO Metro station.

    Been there once. I think place can be better maintained and use modern technology. There is not much upgradation in the way exhibits are shown.
