Skincare during vacations
This is the most beautiful time of the year, as the aura is filled with sweet scents of vibrant festivals and celebrations. As calendar hits the year-end, we’re usually off to our favourite beach destination’s to soak in the warmth of the sun. A beautiful getaway, picturesque beach, tranquil life, festive fervour, is what makes the year-end special for us as a family.
If you ask me, I love getting that dose of Vitamin D. Relaxing on the beach bed, with the glass of fruity cranberry punch and reading a thriller novel is what I love getting indulged in. Though this sunshine soothes the most, we need to ensure a proper skincare routine while embracing the beaches.
Don’t be in a hurry, as the musical waves hitting the shores and the mesmerizing sunset awaits your companionship. Let’s celebrate the beauty of this world, without creating a havoc on our skin.
I hate sunburns and I’m sure, so do you. So, let’s talk about Skincare essentials while you’re on the beach. While beach bags usually get overloaded, when it comes to skincare, I have my Sunscreen, Aloe Vera gel, moisturiser and lip balm ready along with other essentials. You can checkout the link.
Skincare tips while on the beach :
1. Moisturising Lotion :
Be well moisturised before hitting your favourite beach. I slather my lotion quite liberally after cleaning my exposed parts and face with a natural and gentle cleanser. Any sort of exfoliation and scrubs makes skin more sensitive to the sun, so avoid any exfoliation before you begin your beach vacations.
2. Hydration :
Being hydrated is fundamental for a glowing skin and beach vacations are no exception. We sweat and lose our moisture more on beaches and any sort of hydration is important for skin while relaxing on the sand. Keep drinking bottled water, coconut water at regular intervals.
3. Include more of SPF rich foods :
We’re all into applying sunscreen, but do you know that many foods are rich in SPF which can help as a double protection against the sun’s UV rays? Citrus fruits, Strawberries (Strawberries have tannins which help reduce sunburn too), Green Tea, pomegranates, Red Grapes, Tomatoes (veggies with red pigmentation) are amazing foods to gobble upon during beach vacations. Though, note that sunscreen will still be required to be worn.
4. Sunscreen :
Well, that’s a no-brainer, sun and sunscreen go hand in hand. During the peak hours of the sun (10 am – 2 pm), it is important to apply and reapply sunscreen every few hours. Applying and Re-applying “broad spectrum” sunscreen (protection against both UVA and UV B rays) while on the beach is a must. While SPF 15 does the work, people with more sensitive & fair skin should opt for SPF 30 or more. You can also choose for sunscreens with Zinc or Titanium as they protect skin as soon as you apply them.
The tip here is, be generous in applying and ensure no miss in any small area.
5. Lip Moisturiser :
While I’m minimalistic when it comes to makeup, more so on beaches, but I ensure to apply Lip balm with SPF. If you wish you use bold lip colours, you can still nourish lips with lip balm first and then use lip colour.
6. Protective Accessories :
Well, you need to rely on Sunscreen but keep your hat, UV blocking Sunglasses ready. They will give you a chic look and also keep you protected. If possible, you can go with loose fabric full clothing for those peak sun hours and seek shade under the Umbrella. A sarong is a great option for beaches, you can cover yourself with a sarong to stay shielded from direct sun rays.
7. Aloe Vera Gel :
Aloe Vera is your best buddy while on the beaches. After a sunbath, cleanse your skin gently and apply Aloe Vera gel or Aloe vera gel mixed with Lavender essential oil. It has amazing skin healing and soothing properties.
That’s what my skincare routine is for beach vacations. What about you? How do you ensure that you indulge in sunbath without getting tanned or sunburns?
Hi Jhilmil,
Wonderful post. You have shared some wonderful tips to take care of your skin. Having water at regular interval is very important to keep you hydrated. You should also use a good quality sunscreen to save your skin from the harmful ultra violet rays of the sun.

Good one!! I usually slather up sunscreen but the sun is so sharp on the beach that the sunburns happen no matter what. But then what’s the fun if you are covered up at the beach too?
No doubt sunscreen is must have while visiting beach as chance of tanning increase due to sun exposure.
Thanks Jhilmil for such great tips! The Aloevera tip is the best for me. I love Aloevera but didn’t know that the additional of Lavender oil makes it a good combination
